SP101 327 Rear Sight

Anyone know why Ruger used the blade rear sight with these? I'm thinking of adding one to the stable and wonder how they hold up. I had a 4" sp101 22 years ago with the same sight but can't recall what it was like.

I have one in 327 and the sight seems just fine.
I painted the front sight red and that has helped me, with 61 year old eyes and tri focals I don't see sights very well any more.
