I have a new SP 101 22lr. on the first time shooting it, when firing single action the hammer dropped and the gun fired without touching the trigger. luckily I was pointing at the ground and just got a powder burn and sore finger from the cylinder gap blast. i found that it was isolated to one chamber that would not stay cocked or the hammer would fall with slight pressure.
I called Ruger, and it was picked up the next day and returned in 2 weeks. The pawl, hammer and trigger were replaced and the ratchet adjusted.
Good customer service by Ruger, too bad the QC isnt as good.

Yes, too bad QC didn't catch it, however, good to Ruger for the quick turnaround!

One of the things that I learned (from a couple of different people) when I first got into shooting was:
Before loading a live round in any new- or new to you- firearm, you should always clean it, carefully inspect it AND dry fire/function test it.
THEN:
Your first time loading it with live rounds should be at a range (or other location with an appropriate backstop), where you can make sure that it runs safely.

After hearing a number of stories about malfunctions, some of them very dangerous, I always do exactly that.
