Just FYI,

Went to my LGS today and they had a new 06/17/2013 production 2 inch SP-101 with MIM parts. I knew that the 4 inch and the 22lr had MIM parts and just figured it was only time before it spread. The hammer looked nice but had a lot of side movement.

I don`t mind the MIM parts and have a couple Rugers that have them.
That said, just how sloppy is the fit??? I would rather have a little slop than have the parts dragging and cause possible misfires. After all it is a Ruger SP and not a custom shop Colt Python. I have three SP`s and love them all. Great little shooters!

I have a couple SPs with MIMS, not too sloppy at all. Rimfire & .357.
MIMS have spread through several models, a new Super Red here has a MIM trigger.
They're in GPs, too. Some rifle parts, etc.

Sorry...I'm old. What are MIM Parts

Medal injection molding.

I got lucky when I bought a 2012 SP101 it didn't have the MIM hammer, lots of people buying them last year were not so lucky.

..... What are MIM Parts?....

For a good description of the process, check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_injection_molding.

As with most mass-produced items, the quality of MIM varies with who is doing it, and how carefully they are monitoring the process.

Various opinions around here (and other places) call MIM parts "as good as they get" to the complete opposite end of the scale: "the work of the devil".
