I'm looking at getting a smaller & lighter 22 handgun and the SR 22 and new SP101 are lead candidates. It would go on my hip during hunting or in the pack and no real need other than to have it for potshotting a grouse during deer hunting.

Thoughts on which to get if accuracy is to shoot ruffed grouse at close range.

Depends on what you are accustomed to. If you are primarily a wheel gunner or a self shucker user.

Who has a 6-shot .22LR 101 4" and a Walther P22, but I take the T-514 Mk. II, 5.5" bull barrel pistol to the range every time I go.

Oops. Sorry for last post, early in the morning here!!! I'd go with the SR 22 , it's just plain a fun gun.

I have the SP101 in .357 (4.2" barrel) and an SR 22. I've shot the SP101 in .22, but think the SR would be my choice. But, there's no bad choice!!!,

I have 2 Mark 2 bull barrels, a single siz, and SW 617 6" barrel. The smith out shoots them all and my 617 is your 514...
but I am itching for a lightweight 22. I tried once with a taurus 94 and that was a sad experiment. Finding a smith kit gun will be expensive so the SR22 leads the way, but I do lean towards wheel guns. For reference... the single six just doesn't hang with the 617 so it may go down the road. Please don't flame me.. I am a loyal ruger guy.

Have you handled the SP101? They aren't what I would call light, but they aren't too heavy either. The SR22 is really light.

I have an SP101 and I like it, I haven't handled the SR22.

I assume you are talking about the new SP101 - stainless with a 4.2" barrel, adj rear sight and fiber optic front sight. I think that would be a better gun for your purpose. But there is a difference in price that may effect your decision. The SR22 can be had for $300; the SP101 is north of $500.

Ive been stopping at stores in hopes to handle each side by side and compare. both of these sell well.

I would go sp for sure. It was dseigned on Bill Rugers watch--built like a tank and no shortcuts. I think there is alot to be said for the "original" ruger guns.

No bad choices listed. But have you considered a 4" 617?

Between the SR22 and the sp, it's just a matter of how light is light and how much $ is too much.

I've been watching a used one for $600 and I am tempted...
