I have lots of Rugers, but I also have a thing for S&W 'J' Frames. I picked this up recently. I haven't found out what it was for, but it sure is purty. It was made about 1999, and is still NIB. It's a .357 Mag.

Thanks for the compliments. I showed it over on the S&W forum, in hopes of somebody knowing what it was made for, but no luck there. I tried the only phone number I could find for S&W, but I got no answer. I'm going to keep looking for info on it.

Well! Right after I posted the previous message, I got a short email from S&W saying it was shipped on 11/1995, and may have been a Lew Horton special order. So I guess I owe them an appology.

Now that you mention it, the grips do look like the Lew Horton style. It may be the picture, but the thumb rest looks a little more prominent on yours than on others I've seen, almost like a target stock. Though why anyone would put target grips on a snubby is beyond me.

This gun is a Lew Horton Edition 624. I refinished the grips, which had a horrid orange stain on them:

I had the 44 mag. twin to that one of yours. I bought it when they first came out. I didn't even know who Lew Horton was, back then. I had it right up to about 6 months ago, when I finally traded it. After I got my OM SBH, I hadn't shot it in years. I did trade it for another OM, so it wasn't so bad.

I found it in the gun digest. Let's just say it was quite expensive. I've got a model 60-10, 357, 3", and I hadn't seen a 640-1, in 357, so I just had to get it as a companion for the other one.
