My daughter was out for a drive and a hike today. This view of the Columbia River Gorge is looking East from Crown Point, which is not too far from the Eastern boundary of the Portland civilization.
Much of the Jimmie Stewart movie, Bend of the River, (1952) was filmed here.
Nice picture. I love the gorge. Sometimes on a summer day the wife and I will make the loop from Portland to Bigg's Junction and back the Washington side to Vanvouver. A beautiful scenic 4 hour tour.
Other than a few major cities in the state, Oregon is as open and undeveloped as these photos show. That's the irony. A huge state, hugely rural, controlled by a very small (by area) leftist community.
Did you happen to snap one from Crown Point looking a bit further South with Mt Hood??? A friend climbed Mt Hood last night and sent some incredible pics from 12,235 feet, of the beautiful clear sunrise we had this morning.
The Gorge is a beautiful place. My daughter lives in Dallesport so we go there often. I love seeing the changing seasons down there. Too bad they built those huge wind farms south of Goldendale. They are butt ugly.
