It's amazing how good these guns would shoot, whether jacketed or cast. A good rifle wouldn't out shoot one, it took a really good rifle to do it. I was selling them in the late 60's when they first came out, I won't even mention the price, bought one in 222 caliber & shot a whole bunch of Texas varmints with it, amazing accuracy. Rare in 30/30. Good luck with your sale!

Sixshot hit the target again. In my humble opinion, the Rem. 788 (in all its calibers) is THE MOST accurate production rifle ever made (yeah, I know). I've have one in .222, .223, and .22-250; have also had the 6mmRem, and 7mm-08. They were all tack-drivers beyond any other rifle I've ever had. The three I keep have all been responsible for lots of wood-chucks over the years. I won't part with these three. I have found that '2-point' (rear tang and recoil lug + 2 inches) glass bedding just makes them even more accurate...

Mine was very accurate. Niece hit a 20 0z. soda bottle at 50 yds. first shot. I gave my 788 30-30 to her as She is sensitive to recoil. Idaho deer watch out. greg

I have all the Calibers in the Remington 788's but the 44mag. The 22-250 has dropped alot of Sheep & White tails & the 222 has done a great job on Varmits have not shot the other calibers.
I find the 44Mags when I am broke or the guy is asking the moon for it. I collected Remingtons before I got into Rugers & Marlins. The 788 were the best back then for cheap fun rifles.
