"Silverado" after they have retrieved the stolen money and they all draw simultaneously to fire on the guy with a rifle who has shot the settler accompanying them.

"Lonesome Dove", Gus shooting from his horse while being pursued by the Indians.

Remember Richard Boone as Paladin in Have Gun, Will Travel? The opening scene had him draw the long barrelled COLT out of the holster with the chess knight...then he delivered a few lines that previewed the episode. The comments were not delivered in various episodes on cable I've seen. When did it change or which came first.

Various scenes with Clint Eastwood in THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES. The ROAD AGENT SPIN with TWO WALKER COLTS in the trading post. The town shoot out with the four Red Legs and the immortal line, "you gonna draw them pistols or whistle Dixie?" Honorable mention to the shoot out with the comancheros holding his friends captive AND the shoot out in front of the cabin with the Red Legs.

History fans OR anyone who shoots cap and ball revolvers knows why civil war guerillas and western outlaws in the years preceding cartridge revolvers carried multiple guns on their person and in saddle holsters. RIDE WITH THE DEVIL was based on THE WAR OF NORTHERN AGGRESSION here in MO...they were pretty accurate on the guns, horse gear and social conditions.

I bought the DVD set of the series "Dead Man's Gun"
Never saw it while it was on the air as I never have had the Showtime channel. I am happy that I bought the set and have viewed all the episodes.
Henry Winkler produced it, Kris Kristofferson narrated, and a number of stars played various roles in various stories.
It was a great concept.

Its not a "Western" and I'm not a Stallone fan, but in the movie, "The Expendables", Stallone draws a sheriffs model SA from a SOB holster I think. Gets the first shot off to start a big shoot-out. Drills the guy in the forehead, DRT. stevemb

That's a great scene!

I also love the last part of Appaloosa where Viggo's character kills Jeremy Irons. The shootout in the middle was good too.

The scene from True Grit mentioned above is also a classic.

The ending of Quigley Down Under was another.

Josey Wales killing the two trappers at the trading post was awesome, especially the double road agent spin.

As were several scenes in Pale Rider.

One of my favorites was in Wild Bill, when the guy at the saloon smashed Bill's hat. Then he mowed them down like grass with his Navy Colt, finished his drink and said, "...never mess with a man's hat".

Pale Rider -
The final shoot out, the calmness when he swaps cylinders in the Remington.
"nothing like a good piece of hickory"

Open Range -
When Costner asks the gunslinger if he was the one that killed Mose. I was like "can you do that?" :)

There was a western not sure of the name but had quite a few top stars. Group was running cattle through town and was a nite time saloon scene where one guy was at a card table at the front swinging doors another came in and wanted guy at table, till he was blown out the doors along with half the table when a hidden shotgun went off.

The Preacher

Easily the best, IMO. Then again, Duke was simply the best, period, IMO :mrgreen:

Don't think I could chose between the two, or even wanted to. Two different views on what type of story should be told. Both no-nonsense, get to the point, and get the job done. But you always knew that Duke wore the white hat. Clint's hat was often gray :) but sometimes bad men only understand violence. Another couple of my favorites is Glen Ford and Jimmy Stewart (I never get tired of Cheyenne Social Club).

You know, I always liked Gary Cooper in The Plainsman,,,, He played Hickok and wore his revolvers butt forward. It's an oldie but a goodie IMO. :D

My all time favorite is the "Open Range" shootout mentioned above. Giving the hired gun a third eye at the start of that fight.

Not shown unfortunately is the immediate aftermath, walking down the street - best line - by Harley (Fonda) to John (Stewart) who Harley felt was indicating a bit too much confidence in facing the rest of the Bannister gang based on his stellar saloon performance,

"First time anybody got killed by a pecan." :)

Great movie and a classic pairing of Fonda and Stewart in the nick of time considering their waning Western movie days.
