Single-Six opinion of value?

I know these questions show up regularly and there is plenty of information available through "search" and also RENE but I'd appreciate your comment regardless. Thanks in advance for your time. I have the opportunity to purchase an OM Single-Six that I estimate in about 90% condition. It is the fixed sight, 51/2" version and LR only. No box and no accessories. Grip frame is in excellent shape but there is some holster wear near the muzzle (left side) and a small spot of wear on the outside of the recoil shield. A few small dings on the (aluminum?) ejector rod housing. Serial 392XXX. Looks as though none of the screws have ever been touched. In need of a really good cleaning. End play very tight and mechanical function is perfect. Not converted. Primarily a shooter. Really appreciate your thoughts on the value. I guess this is just a run-of-the-mill Single-Six?

Seems to be a '64 model. I paid $390.00 for a '65 model w/6 1/2" bbl a few years ago. Your location may also be a deciding factor. Here in Maryland prices appear to be higher than man other places. Might want to go to 'GunsAmerica.com' or 'Gunbroker.com and see if you can get an idea from either of those sites.

Agreed with above since location makes a difference. I got a '65 6.5" with some minor issues for less than $350.

It "may" be a transition variation and have an XR-3 grip frame. Maybe. If your are not all that familiar with such variations one can simply pop off the grips and look closely at the grip frame. It should be marked XR-3 or XR3-RED. In general a XR-3 gun will be worth a few bucks more than a similar vintage XR3-RED.

Just a thought..... but the s/n is kinda high for it to be an XR-3.

Thank you all for the input. I went ahead and purchased this fine little revolver for a very good price. The wood grips were slightlydamaged (both) so I replaced them with a set I had from another project. The grip frame is marked XR-3 RED. Gave it a thorough cleaning and some Rem-Oil and it is much improved! A little range time coming up soon! Gerry

I'd say $325/350 is a fair price as described. You actually bought what I consider the best version as it is an early one. I like the older pre transfer bar and they are very safe when handled properly. Plus you don't have that warning novel stamped on the side of the barrel. I predict you're going to love your new purchase.
