Single Six Grip Timeline

When did ruger change over from the checkered black rubber grips
to walnut? Was this concurrent with the change from XR3 to
XR3-red? Did any early XR3 convertibles have the rubber grips?

I saw a post by street that showed single six pricing changes and it says walnut grips became standard in 1963.

So, sounds like there might have been early convertibles with rubber grips.

After the change from XR3 to XR3-RED all grips for the Old Models were Walnut.

I think Walnut became standard in 60 or 61 for the XR3 grip frame. Yes the early convertible came with the Hard Rubber grips. A call to Ruger should tell which way they were shipped.
