Single Six grip frame question

I have a older (Ser. #518609) 3 screw Single Six (convertible) 6 1/2" revolver and would like to replace the aluminum parts with steel. The ejector rod housing is a pretty straight forward swap but I need some advice with the grip frame. I happen to have a Power-And-Custom steel, "Colt style" 2 piece grip frame that will fit the Blackhawk or Single six but, of course, it does not have the old grip mounted "plunger" trigger spring. It DOES have the necessary spring mounting pins, etc. for the current Blackhawk/Single Six trigger spring. Question: Is it possible to convert this gun to the current trigger spring design? Thank you.

First ... WELCOME

Second ... Subject should be in the Ruger-Smithing Section. But no big deal, well get over it.

You have a New Model Grip Frame and Power Custom does make the same in Old Model that would be correct. You don't mention where you got it from so maybe a return and order the right one would be in order.

-OR-

We usually don't make Old Model Guns into New Model Guns, it does happen but it is real easy to make a Trigger Spring/ Plunger Block and our very own "flatgate" has a nice pictorial essay all ready to help. Making a NM grip frame fit a OM gun, this is done quite often

He has a fancy way to insert the button to get you there but I have no idea how to do that... so go to this thread and that "Button" is in the 1st "flatgate" post.

Good Luck :D

G2/Buckeye...
Well, I'm off to a great start. First, I don't introduce myself and then place my first post in the wrong category! I'll pay more attention next time and will post some background stuff in the "New Members Introductions" section soon.
Thank you for the grip frame info. I bought the Colt-to-Ruger grip frame from Power & Custom for another project that I'm now having second thoughts about. I'm sure they would let me return or exchange it but I know I will use it eventually. I see now that I need to spend some time searching the "Gunsmithing" forum archives before asking questions or making decisions. Thanks again for the help...

To answer your question....... yes, you'll have to make one of my "adaptors" and use your Ron Powers/Power Custom grip frame.

That particular grip frame emulates the early Ruger style which emulates the Colt SAA style.

Your Old Model Super Single-Six is fitted with the XR3-RED designed grip frame, which is a "truncated" version of the Super Blackhawk grip frame.
If you want to retain your original grip panels then I recommend simply making a New Model to Old Model trigger spring adaptor and using a very easily obtained New Model XRN3-RED grip frame.

Perhaps a few minutes spent at Mr. Wm. Hamm's Ruger Grip Frame section over at our www.gunblast.com friends web site will offer some insight.
