sighting tips?

Took my SR to the range today with my son for it's maiden voyage. This is my first centerfire pistol so I'm new to the hobby. The range is set up for 25 or 50 yards, so I don't expect any real accuracy but I do have a question that might seem really basic. Where should I be putting the center of the bullseye? I read an article that covered center of mass, 6 o'clock and sub-6 sighting and I understand about elevation and windage but where is the designed POA for this gun? Please go easy .......

Wow! You picked a nice place to start!
I don't know the poa on the sr1911. But if your group is all over the target the poa doesn't really matter much at this point. Work on form. Once you have a really tight group it will be obvious were poa is.
My guess is you are a little intimidated by the recoil and are flinching.

Do you have a 22 to practice with?

Find someplace to shoot where you can start at 7 or 10 yards. 25 yards is OK for bench shooting but who does that with a pistol? 6 o'clock hold is normal.

They are just about ready to open the 7 yard range where I shoot, that should help tighten my groupings. I have a Ruger Mk II with a red dot sight, still not sure if I like it but it does help my old eyes out. Guess I just need to get back to basics and tighten the grouping before worrying about the location.
