My Great Great Grandfather fought in the Civil War with the 1st New York Volunteer Sharpshooters. They fought in a good amount of the Virginia Campaign Battles going toe to toe with R.E. Lee around the state all the way to Appomattox Courthouse. The rifle used by the units men was the 1863 Sharps rifle( not the carbine). I would love to acquire an original or maybe a repro but don't know a whole bunch about them. Thought maybe theres likely some 'sharp' members here who can lead me in the right directions or offer advice, any info welcomed, thanks
