I dug deep for that $400. I already had a Norinco 1911 and an Argentine 1927 but getting that Colt became a mission to save it from the smelter in England.

I dug deep for that $400. I already had a Norinco 1911 and an Argentine 1927 but getting that Colt became a mission to save it from the smelter in England.
The Series 70 I had back in the early 1980's had the collet bushing. I liked it and it worked well, as most did until one of the collet fingers broke off and tied things up. I do not know if that was a common or a rare occurance though.
...and that was the main reason those collet bushings were a "hhhmmmm".but they did work as they were intended, as long as it didn't come apart, and they did from time to time, and that ain't good in a "defense" or duty gun......it's one thing if you are "at the range", versus "On the street"..........

Colt uses a series 80 system on any of their 1911s meant for carry and a series 70 for any target pistols currently. Ruger uses a series 70 design . About the only drop safety that doesn't effect the trigger is the swartz system Kimber uses. That system is fine for shooting but is a pain when a complete dis-assembly is done. I much prefer the series 70!! I have an all stainless SR1911 commander that I really like.
For me pre-series 70 are the Holy Grail. Something like a 1960 National Match Government Model 1911 (aka Commercial Colt). Pre-70 Series bring big prices.

Well actually, they did for a few years, they no longer do. I also had a series 80 Gold Cup and I have a series 70 Gold Cup. You could feel the difference in the triggers. The series 80 trigger felt pretty good until you tried the series 70 trigger LOL!
