SECURITY SIX TIMING PROBLEM

My friend has a really nice 6" stainless secuity-six he wants to sell. I would buy it but when cocking the hammer the cylinder latch locks up before the hammer reaches full cock on all cylinder except one. It isn't even close.
The ejector star looks perfect on all six points. The hand is in very good shape. The gun hasn't been fired much at all.

So what is wrong and can it be fixed? Also what is it worth if it can be fixed?

Do you mean one chamber - the same one everytime - fails to lock up before the hammer falls? It's dependent on the latch notch on the cylinder OD; and/or the timing star. Inspect with a 10x in good light. Have an experienced gunsmith correct it - may be repair-able, maybe not.

The same notch everytime. I checked it out with a 3.5 magnifying headband and everything looks fine.

jpickar, You need to have a gunsmith look at that revolver. For that one chamber, either the ratchet tooth is "short" or the cylinder notch is out of spec. An important question is: Are you pulling the hammer back in "normal" fashion or real slow? Remember that revolver cylinders have carry-up that is dependent upon proper "cocking" methods. As for the rest of the function, it is "normal" for the Six Series revolvers to have the cylinder latch lock up "before" the hammer is at full cock in the single action mode. If it doesn't work that way, then you have "problems"........................Dick :wink:

Dick, you are right, this gun has problems.
I went back and took my calipers. The ratchet tooth is fine and looks and measures like the rest. Measuring from cylinder notch to cylinder notch around the cylinder that one notch is off.
