Security Six in 38 Special

I read recently that Security Six's in 38 sp are rare. Is that true and are they worth more than the 357s? I have one in 38.

Rare? No. Uncommon? Yes. Before the fixed sighted variation was renamed Service Six they were stamped and marketed as Security Sixes. The best known .38 special Security Sixes are 6" stainless adjustable sighted revolvers sold to the California Highway Patrol. No doubt the serious collectors here know of some rare variations, but not all .38 special Security Sixes are rare.

Rare does not always equal increase in value.
We est. only about 5% of Security Six (adj. sight) guns were made in .38 spl.
There are currently only a handful of Ruger double action collectors and a whole bunch of Ruger shooters - big market for shooters - not so big for collectors.

Fixed sight / adj. sight and barrel length all go into the 'rarity' mix.
I've been looking for a blued, 2 3/4" low back, adj. sight Security Six in .38 spl. with no luck.
