Scored a Security Six shorty

Just got a 2 3/4" stainless Security Six out of the waiting period (we in CA refer to it as "gun jail"). Bought it from a neighbor. Sixes of any sort are uncommon in SouCal, partly because of our stupid gun laws, so I jump on any that I want. This one is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition--it has been both shot and carried but has only one noticeable ding and a small buildup/stain of carbon on the front of the cylinder, which I will get rid of. Had old "Mustang" OS walnut grips; I replaced them with Ruger factory OS grips, which feel better to me--the Mustangs are comfortable but too slim for my hands.

This gun is fitted TIGHT; no visible cylinder/barrel gap at all. I guess I'm gonna have to keep it really clean. Nice trigger, too. And it's a "200th Year of American Liberty" gun! No LEA markings, tho.

Now to see how it shoots.

Congratulations on the nice find, you're gonna love that thing. I have the same, a 2-3/4" SS that I found unfired new in the box with papers about 3 years ago, I quickly snapped it up. I also found an original Tyler T grip from the same era, its a fine revolver.

Nice, I have one I came across while looking for a .357 Speed Six. I did eventually find a Speed at the right price/time and am glad I got the snub Security when I did. I am still looking for a 6" Security to round out my stainless Speed, Police, & Security "collection". :roll: I currently have (all stainless):
a 2 3/4" .357 Speed Six
two 9mm Speed Sixes
a 4" Police Service Six
three 4" Security Sixes, two NIB
and one 3" SP101 & a 4" GP (not "Sixes" but brothers of the same lodge)

Yes and I think the grip is a little different too.

I had a speed six 2 3/4" barrel and it was one of the nicest and best shooting revolvers I've ever owend. Sold it about 15 years ago in a moment of weakness to fund another gun (45-70 Sharps).

While I still have the Sharps, I really wish I hadn't sold the speed six.

I think some early Speeds were marked Securitys, is it a round or square butt? I would like to have a round butt, 4", fixed sight, stainless Ruger .357 but a square butt like you describe is just a Police Service Six with funny markings. :wink:

I'll be at the shop tomorrow and look at the butt. I mean that it was mismarked by the shop, not on the gun itself.

My first new out of the box handgun was a 2 3/4 stainless Security Six. I foolishly traded it toward something else over 20 years ago, and missed it from the day. I would happily pick up another.

I was going to write that the short Sixes look much better if they are the fixed sight (Service Six and Speed Six). The much taller front sight looks different.

But seeing those nice revolvers makes me withdraw my comment.
