Scope mounts

I purchased a new in the box mini 14 in stainless steel, the gun came with a weaver rail and a set of Ruger scope mounts. Now the problem, yesterday I bought a Nikon 223 32 fixed focal scope. The scope does fit in the rings but when the rings are mounted on the rifle ; when you try to place the scope in the rings the scope makes contact with the rings where the scope flares for the optics. The weaver rail came with screws to mount over the bolt area. The rail is 4 1/4 inches long and I am not sure the Nikon 223 rings will fit. anyone out there with any ideas? I am a knew guy to the Ruger forum.

Ruger makes offset rings for the mini 14, #4KO. They may or may not work in your case. Do both rings line up with the flares or just one? The rings are usually used to mount the scope back on a rifle, but may work for you. You may be able to use just one ring and it may give you just enough wiggle room. If you go with this method, you will need two new rings. The rings that come with the Mini are #5k, and the offset only come in #4KO. so you will need one offset, and one regular #4K.

I had a little trouble following, just want to ensure I get the problem right.

The Mini has two preset points on the receiver (front & rear) at which the Ruger style rings can be used and the Nikon scope tube is too short - correct?

If the Weaver style base has 3 or 4 separate mounting points I'd presume buying Weaver style rings will allow you to still use the Nikon. The issue then becomes whether the scope will sit too high because that base does add height. Also, by using the Weaver base you know have an additional part to ensure is tightened down properly.

My approach would be to stay with Ruger rings attached directly to the receiver. If the extended rings get the extra 1" or so that allow use of the current Nikon, great. If not I'd get a different scope. Midway publishes specs on each scope, so you'll know ahead of time if there's enough "straight tube" to bridge the Mini receiver. I'm pretty sure my Mini carries a Nikon 2 to 7X. Burris makes a straight tubed 4X Timberline, you don't have to worry about a front bell. And it's a pretty small scope, looks right on the Mini. I have one on a 96/44.

Thanks guys form the help. I bought the Nikon mounts. The problem now is to get the scope to fit I have to use the weaver mounting plate; when the Nikon mounts are fitted to the Weaver plate the scope fits the mounts but the rear mounting bracket of hangs over the bolt opening and cause problems with the brass being ejected. So I guess I contact Ruger for mounts. I have the same scope and mounts on my Rock River M4 carbine, it is a nail driver at 100yrds A five shot group can be covered by a quarter.
