Scope mount for the Ruger Scout Rifle

I know virtually nothing about scopes.

Is it possible to put a mount on the Ruger Scout Rifle such that the iron sights could still be easily used?

And what would be a good scope for this gun? I'm going to be shooting at 50 yard targets.

Yes ! I used a Yankee Hill long extended AR-15 base mounted in reverse from the rail over the action. It extends almost to the rear sight. One can still use the iron sights as the base has a channel to look through. I would think a 1x4 variable would be ideal for 50 yard shooting. A straight 4X or maybe a 2x7 might work as well. I got mine from MidwayUSA. The YH # is 9473, the Midway # is 858580. It's the 6" riser extension. Hope this helps! One simply mounts it on the Scout's rail with the extension part over the receiver. I mounted mine as far back as it will go. Rings and scope are combinations are almost endless. :D Bob!

I have this item on my AR. Like all YHM products it's rock solid, well made. Bolt it down and it's on for good. I may be msitaken, but I don't think it will allow you to use the existing sights on the GSR. The YHM riser will block the sights - you'll be able to see the rear sight, but not the front. And it will put the scope up a bit high, in my opinion, and not best for a good cheek weld.

If the intent is to slide it off when using iron sights, I suppose that works but think you'll lose zero going back to the scope.

I have the GSR and went with an XS made extended rail. I use QD rings so popping off the scope & resetting is easy.

Well darn. I want to be able to use both a scope and iron sights simultaneously. So you don't think that this will work, right?

Do you mean that you want to be able to see the irons in the scope? ie: lower third or center cowitness?

Whether by looking under the YHM or through the glass (to "co-witness" as mentioned) I don't this will work. The sights are too short to co-witness and the rails are solid.

Gentlemen, on my scout, I was able to see both iron sights under the scope, through the rail. granted, there was not a lot of field of view. They will not co witness. Bob! :)
