When did Ruger switch from grooved to smooth triggers on new model SBH's?

Good Question! IIRC the early New Model Supers used smooth Blackhawk triggers but soon thereafter a grooved trigger was again utilized.

I'm sure one of the Members here will chime in with a proper answer for you.

I do NOT see a "classic" 7-1/2" Super with a "Dragoon" style grip frame listed on Ruger's web site, either.

That is a good question,got my guns out to see. I have NM 83-80315 10 1/2'' grooved IHMSA (1980). OM #4628 grooved (1960).OM 80-55817 grooved (1972). NM SB-00153 smooth (2009). I never really did notice that. I would like to know myself. :?

Flatgate, you are correct about the early Supers. According to the RENE the first 13,000 or so S47N's had the smooth trigger. It appears that the grooved triggers were again used starting in late 1974 through at least 1977. When the smooth triggers came back after this is still unknown.

My NMSuper had a grooved trigger and it was made in 1986. I swapped it for a smooth trigger.

I am not the original owner, however, so the trigger might have been swapped for the grooved one along the line somewhere.

Here's one of the early smoothies in its natural habitat.

The smooth triggers were around a lot longer than the old model two-piece boxes. Here's a slightly higher gun with the normal early NM box.

81-41942 is the earliest I know of with NM cylinder.
