Safe storage and cardboard boxes

I have a question and I sure should know the answer but I don't...I've stored my handguns inside where climatic conditions are good....I've never concerned myself with storage and never had any rust issues, etc...here's the rub...thanks to all you nice folks that got me interersted in doing some Ruger collecting my little group of guns has grown quite a bit and a number of the revolvers I've gotten have either had the original boxes or I've acquired them. Since the number of guns has increased quite a bit I found a really nice safe (very heavy with 2 hour fire rating (living in the San Diego area...we get some nasty ones) and have put it in my garage with one of the little rod type electric dehumidifiers.....Because I live in San Diego our weather is almost always good and the safe is heavilly insulated so I'm not concerned with big hot or cold spells affecting the stored items. I am wondering if I can safely leave the guns that are in the original cardboard boxes...in those boxes for storage? I've usually just left the Rugers that come in the grey plastic boxes in them and if no box I'd just put the gun in a silicone gun sock...again, never any problems...I don't want to take a chance with rust on the guns in cardboard but the cardboard boxes are very convenient for the storage and also in the safe the boxes are in a location where they are protected from physical damage... I've heard many opinions on leaving blued guns in cardboard boxes for storage and just wondered what you might have experienced..thanks

Any thoughts really appreciated...never been faced with this kind of thing before..

I keep my guns in their boxes and wrapped in Ruger's "Oil wrap" paper if I have it.
I get them all out and wipe them down with some light gun oil once in a while.

NEVER seen any trouble.........

We keep ours in the boxes, but guns wrapped in a plastic bag (this is much easier on the blue). And then also one of those small packets of moisture inhibitor thrown in the box.

Shouldn't moisture pack be in plastic bag. Seems humidity could accumulate in plastic bag?
