Ruget mini 14 purchase

I have an option to purchase a ruger mini 14 195 series & I was curious of that is a series with the larger barrel to avoid the overheating problem.

He wants $850. Its s stainless with three magazine. He's intetested in a partial trade for my P345. Any thoughts?

Turns out he's including 1-40, 1-30, 1-20 & 1-5 round magazines

Hello,

No, the 195 serial number prefix too early a number. The 580, 581's is where we start to see the major changes to include the heavy contour barrel. But, it is still a nice rifle. I think that price is high but that is your decision. New rifles can be had for less than that amount. The magazines are a plus but I would want to know who manufactured them. Some after market Ruger Mini mags are not very dependable. Let us know how you decide.

FWIW:
My thought is that you can buy a new one for about the same money...or $100-$150 cheaper if you're not stuck on getting a stainless model.
If the extra mags are not genuine Ruger mags (and the 40 rounder surely isn't), they may not turn out to be much of a "bonus".
The 195 seriies was still using the "pencil barrel", but some do shoot rather well regardless.
The heavier "tapered barrel" started somewhere in 580 series range. If that is what you're after, the gun you are looking at aint it.
All lightweight carbines will "string" their shots to some extent as the barrel heats up, and the newer Mini's are no exception. They just don't do it as badly as the older versions. On a related note, I hear that the short barrel "tactical models" shoot tighter than the standard-length versions. Some say that that is due to it having different harmonics, some say that it's due to the muzzel brake providing a dampening effect. I can't say either way. About all I can say is that these aint exactly target-grade guns that we're talking about here.......if ya get my drift.

I just picked up a NIB Mini 14 Stainless Ranch off Gunbroker for a total cost of 760 and it came with 2 20rd mags. I guess it depends on how much trade in you are getting for the 345. About the max difference I would pay is 400 and preferably 300.

The price is about $200 high for a used 195 series mini. If the magazines are aftermarket they don't add any value IMO. You could easily buy a new one and several factory mags for that price.
I have a blued model with the skinny barrel which actually shoots pretty well, but that seems to be the exception rather than the rule.
