Are all P-mags the same? My Ruger SR556 functions just fine when I feed it 10round, 30round or even the 40round versions of the Magpul P-mag. I really have to !!!SLAM/POUND!!! the 20round version in the mag well to make it seat correctly, unlike the other three sizes which fit perfect/correctly. Mine is a model SR556 #5902, not that the model number should matter. Why do you think the 20 round version has a much different fit? The 20 round version even comes standard in some Ruger 556 models. I find it hard to believe that one would find this an acceptable fit on a stock Ruger rifle. I know you Mag-pul experts out there have the answer.

There are different "generations" of PMags and that may account for the more difficult fit of some, not the capacity. There's a Gen 2 and a Gen 3, I never paid much attention to which does what. I have all sorts of "not ARs but use AR mags" and they've all worked the same for me.

Do you have to slam/pound the magazines when they are empty or when they have 20 rounds loaded? How about with 18 or 19 rounds? Might be a tight spring; sometimes you see this problem with pistol mags when they are new and it seems to heal itself as the mags get broken in.
