I had my mind set on a Ruger Single six in Stainless to go with my other Rugers, but now thinking maybe the Single Ten would be the way to go.

The sights for me anyway are better on the Single Ten and I really wonder about the 22 WMR in a handgun with a 5.5 inch barrel is really going to do anything more than a 22 LR?

I also understand the Ten has a .002 larger diameter barrel to accommodate the WMR. So in theory the Ten should be more accurate.
Either one would be for just target shooting and plinking.

Thoughts?

I've had a single six convertible for many many years. As such, the
aesthetics of the single ten just isn't there. If you are really sure you
want to go with a convertible, have fun.

As to the power difference in a .22WMR over a .22lr in shorter barrels,
once you get past three (or so) inches, it . . . is . . . there. The five plus
inch barrels produce good results. The one point is the increase in cost
of the .22WMR ammo. I have not used my single six for .22WMRs in
multiple decades. I do use them in a rifle.

If you are thinking of sights and ten rounds, the GP100 catches my eye,
if you can get past the increased cost.

As with most handgun options, it is a matter of what "trips your trigger". :D

Pat thanks for the reply. Since I no longer hunt and self defense in the house will be covered with another type of handgun I am thinking the WMR might be like you rarely if ever used. Boy the GP100 is more than a little pricey, but right now all my options are open.

While not always true that more is better, it is certainly true when it comes to .22LR capacity.

The .22Mag is a great cartridge that will run 300-400fps faster than the .22LR in a handgun but it is best as a field cartridge. In that role, it excels. For rolling tin cans and Coke bottles, not so much. Or at least, not as often.

I received my Single Ten today and the workmanship is outstanding! The fiber optic sights are wonderful and I discovered today.... sighting it in for back yard rabbits, a 22 Short sometimes just bounces off a 2x8 when used for a backstop!

+ One with Craig C. I use a single six 6.5" with .22 WMR on big jacks at out to 50 yards and the WMR is way more forgiving than the .22lr when the shot is not a head shot. In the winds out here often a body shot is all you can get.

Here's exactly why they make so many different models, to please as many folks as possible.

"I drew my trusty 10-shooter" just will never sound right. And a plastic day-glow sight will never look right, even if it is easier to see. 8)

I can say this, as I have plenty of both.

What about this ten shooter?

In the pre-lawyer days, a six shooter was actually a 5 shooter if you had the common sense to carry with the hammer on an empty chamber.
