I finally got my scout all ready to go. I took off the flash suppressor and put a thread protecter on. I also removed the rail on top. I love the peep sights.

I kept mine pretty much as is and am using a forward mounted scope. I switched out the FH for a PRI brake. The 308 doen't kick much but I figure with the muzzle already threaded, why not? It pretty much eliminates any felt recoil. Doesn't send the noise back to the shooter too much.

I was surprised at the accuracy. Using 155 grain Hornady Palma and RL15 powder I got 3 shot sub 1" @ 100 yds pretty regularly.

Those were the only 2 things I disliked about the gun. Good going.

Tried taking the rail off mine and busted 3 allen wrenches! That thing's really on there.

Call Ruger and they just might send you some filler screws. ;)

Ruger actually sells the filler screws at the ruger store. I paid, I believe 2.95 for mine from the ruger store. You get 5 in a blister pack.
Sorry you are having problems getting the rail off. Mine were easy to get off.

I am getting one new week. I will take off the flash hider and put on a YHM QD 7.62 flash hider so I can use the rifle with my YHM Suppressor.

I just got one but it's still in the box. Are they going to or do they already make 5 round mags for it? I like the big mag but for hunting deer if I decide to take it sometime I'm not allowed to have a mag over 5 rounds.

Ruger makes 5 round plastic mags. The Ruger plastic is a much nicer fit than the metal. The Ruger plastic mags are a bit shorter than metal of the same capacity.

I stole this off another site:

The GSR uses AICS type magazines. These are the mags that I am aware of:
-Accurate-mag (comes with rifle from Ruger; 5rd & 10 rd available)
-AICS (I never used, but hear it is good to go)
-Alpha Industries (I had to modify this mag to make it work in the GSR. After mod, became my favorite mag for GSR – more compact than Accurate-mag)
-C-Products (Never used, but read several bad reviews. Plus company was recently bought out or changed name to Ammosc)

Ruger actually makes 3, 5, and 10 round mags out of the plastic like material.
I ordered two 10 round, one 5 round and one 3 round from Midwayusa and paid 29.95 for each of them. once you use these mags, I don't think you will ever use the 10 round metal ones. In the picture at the top of this thread I have the 3 round one in the scout.

I like using the Ruger 5 rounders off the bench, very compact. No rattle. I have a few of the 10 rounders, I like that they come with a cover to ensure no rounds pop out even if the mags get bounced around a bit.

i've been thinking of getting one as well and thought about the thread protector instead of the flash hider. It looks alot better to me. My thoughts were to take off the rear peep, put my warne QR rings on with my little 2.5-8 leupy. Then i thought about getting one of the XS weaver low ghost ring back up sights and putting it as close to the reciever as possible on the rail. Ya'll think this might work? Figured it would be kinda like those skinner sights.

I was considering the same approach, may end up doing it that way eventually. I think the XS rail will put the scope higher and my goal for now is to keep the scope as low as possible and get a good cheek weld.

the xs rail would solve the problem, i just dont like that long thing adding weight. Figured i could mount a peep on the rail already on the rifle since it would be backup anyway and have my big scope mounted normal. gotta sell my hawkeye 30-06 first though
