Ruger Red Label 3" vs 2 3/4"

Why are some Red Labels 2 3/4" and others are 3"? Was it all the fixed choked guns that were 2 3/4"?

Did they make any changes to the gun barrels when they went to 3"

I want to hunt duck/goose with mine and though I shoot 2 3/4" mostly there are times 3" is preferred

I had a fixed choke Red Label that had 3" chambers. I bought it in the mid to late 80's and I am not sure why any would have 2 3/4" only. Maybe a sporting clays version had 2 3/4"?

The one is a 26" mod/full. I forget what the other one was

the early 12 ga up to about 1987 were all 2 3/4 both blue and stainless

That explains it. Mine was a 20 gauge.

Tom did they make any changes to the gun or barrels when they went to 3" or just chamber them deeper?
