Ruger PC9

Just bought one of these today. Have owned lots of Rugers over the years, but this is the first one of these I have owned. I shot 200 rounds today, and it functioned flawlessly. All ammo where my reloads, both lead and JHP. Very impressed with it. It really gets interesting when it is field stripped. It is a blow-back design, and the slide on the thing is massive! The trigger, hammer, mag release, ejector, etc. are all housed in the stock. One thing I have not figured out yet, is what the doo hickey is on inside top of the receiver:

There are more pics (none of them good, as my camera sucks) in the Gallery section. Just wondered if anybody can educate me as to what that is for inside the receiver.

That is a bolt lock so that the weight of the bolt will not cause the weapon to come out of battery if/when the weapon is dropped. The lock is deactivated by either the trigger or the first stage of pull on the charging handle which allows the bolt to cycle. Blowback weapons are more prone to this happening due to the inertia of the massive bolt. Hope that made sense-its late

I sure wished I had mine back. Sold it and a NIB PC4 last year. Good find. BTW, my PC9 never once stumbled once with any load I tried. Great guns.
