Ruger No. 3 in .223

I recently read in a GunBroker ad that a .223 caliber in a Ruger#3 is rare. That doesn't seem very likely to me. My older issue of "Guns & Prices" gives no indication to support this. It does say to add a premium for "neato" calibers-- any idea what that refers to? Does anyone have any data to support the .223 rare statement? My curiosity runs deep on this one. I look forward to your ideas and knowledge.

They are not rare. Probably the third most common after 45-70 and 22 Hornet.
Rare(r) ones are 375 Win., 30-40 Krag and especially 44 Mag.

I agree with gewer. I looked at the auction - his price is in line with a NIB perfect gun but a little high from what I saw. Good Luck.

Thanks for the info guys. For as common a round as a .223-- I just felt that statement defied logic, but was not finding any data to support the situation either way. Appreciate it!

Rare, no. Common, nope. Roughly 30,000+ made (in all chamberings) in some 14 years of production. But that doesn't mean they're easy to find when you want one, unless you're not picky about condition. They aren't exactly lined up on the sellers' racks.

Don't forget that EVERYTHING on Gunbroker is "RARE!".

Unless I find a miniature action bolt gun soon, I'm going to be in the market for one. What should I expect to pay for a nice specimen? I have a Mini-14 that works out just fine, but is too heavy for a walk about rifle. My TC carbine is light enough, it just doesn't fit me correctly. Seems cumbersome to me. Thanks, jack
