Ruger No. 1 - .243 Bi-centennial

I bought my first Ruger No. 1 (1976 .243 bi-centennial model) a few months ago; a really nice rifle with beautiful wood. I put a Burris 3x9 scope on it and finally got a chance to take it to the range last week. I was really apprehensive as I have read the experience of others as to this rifle's accuracy.

I reoad and was using 85g Sierra HPBT loaded over 4064 powder.

While I appreciate the looks of the rifle, I was more pleased with how it shot. After a 2-shot sight-in at 40yds., I moved out to 100yds. I am 70 years old and my eyes aren't very good, but this rifle shot a 9-shot group of 1.5" at 100 yards. (no strays)
Now some of you may feel this is not great, but I think it would shoot tighter with good eyes and steady nerves behind it.
Can't wait to take it out again to see if these old eyes can do better.

Welcome; see what you have been missing? Should not have waited so long to get a Ruger No.1. Nine shots into an inch and a half is good shooting!

I have your rifle or you have my rifle. I got mine about 15 years ago, and it is one of my favorite rifles. Mine is a 1-B.
Mine shoots about 1 moa most of the time if I do my part. I'm 72 and REALLY do understand the eye and nerve "thing".
As an old joke about the teacher telling folks just keep doing it until you get it right.

I found a rifle like yours for sale a couple years ago. Looked brand new. Of course I hmmed and hawed until someone else bought it. Sure did kick myself!
