I just bought a brand new Ruger Mark III 22/45 5 1/2" bull barrel with removeable grips. I haven't even gotten a chance to fire the gun, I just wanted to disassemble it to clean it up, lube it and try it out at the range. I was actually following the instructions and was able to get the mainspring assembly swing freely out. But being a brand new firearm, I didn't have a rubber mallet to drive out the bolt from the frame (had no idea it was going to be so tough). I tried pulling on it to no avail. Being that it was late, I decided to just put the mainspring back into place and then I don't know what happened. The magazaine can be comletely out of the gun, mag release lever all the way down and the bolt will remain back after it takes some effort to pull it back. The trigger cannot reset, if I put a mag into the gun it's very difficult to pry the mag back out and now the mainspring won't even swing out more than maybe 1/2". I spent hours searching for a solution and there has to be some piece that just needs to be pushed back so the gun can reset, but I have no idea where or what that is. So I am hoping someone here knows. I appreciate the help in advance!

This shows the full extent that the mainspring will come out and I feel if I were to try to pry it, I'd break the gun and it would be a very expensive paper weight...

This is showing the bolt staying back even though there's no mag and the slide catch is down. There's something else holding it up...

Welcome to the forums!

Your post reads like you have issues with the positioning of the hammer or hammer strut: I'd start with symptom #1 here:

This page is MK II specific, but still might be of some help:

@gb6491 I appreciate the response and welcoming me to the forum! So it appears my only option is to squeeze the trigger and pound on the muzzle of the gun until the trigger drops? Because I don't see any way to get to the sear on my 22/45...

I got it!!!!! For those of whom may run into this problem, I found out that with the mainspring out of the gun, I had to tap on the muzzle of the gun with rubber mallet with the trigger squezzed. When I did this, the mainspring came flying out like it should be. A few taps with a wooden doll and the bolt finally came out, comes awfully tight from the factory! Anyway, I appreciate the help!
