Ruger Mark II ammo

I took out the pistol today and tried the Aguila super sniper 60 grain bullets.
Strange looking ammo, it looks like all bullet and a super small case.
Anyway, they cycled fine, and were a bit quieter than regular .22LR ammo.
But not any quieter than regular .22 shorts.
Will .22 shorts cycle in these pistols?
 
You can shoot them single by loading the chamber, but they won't feed from the magazine. I think it was Volquatzen that used to make a .22 short conversion that came with a lightweight bolt, and different mag, there are probably still some around if you look hard enough.
 
The real question is, can you still get .22 short? I haven't looked online, but the only thing I've seen in the stores for years has been LR.
