Welcome to the Forum!
Sadly, not as many folks collect the rifles,,, but there are some out there who do. On the plus side,,, if you collect,,, then due to the low number of collectors,,, you can often get rarer examples at very good prices. On the flip side,,, when you wish to sell,,, it can be hard to get a premium for them.

I have heard of a 300 and 338 but they are about as rare as hens teeth!
Saw a 270 on gunbroker a few years ago and when I went back to bid on it a few hours later it was gone. Morale of the story, when you see a really rare one on gunbroker put a small bid on it so they can't withdraw it!
The potato farmer told me a couple of years ago he had a 338 and knew where another was. Said he turned down a lot of money for it! Said he didn't know where a 300 was but was sure they made a few of them, very few.

I've never spoke to anyone that has seen either the 338 or 300 but I sounds like they do exist. I guess I'll keep looking. Thanks guys

Ronnie Burke's "Ruger Model 77 Bolt Action Rifles" dated 1983. list a Hollow Bolt M77 in 7x57, serial number 70-45217. He also said he has not seen a 300Mag. in a hollow bolt but says there should be some around.

As for the Flat Bolt he says that he has not seen a 7x57 or 300mag. He says that there has been rumored the 7x57 does exist but the 300mag. probably doesn't exist.

As this book was written in 1983 the information may be outdated.

Thanks. Yea I have a 7x57 hollow bolt. It's pretty rough but still cool. I have heard rumors of flatbolt 7x57, 300, and 338 but have yet to ever talk to someone that has one or has personally saw one.

An few years ago a 7x57 flatbolt in an RS also showed up, 70-40085
The .338 M77R flatbolts are unusual as they show up in a higher serial number range than you would normally expect for a flatbolt. In fact, they have higher serial numbers even than most of the hollow bolts...70-87251 to 70-89196 are reported, so not sure what Ruger was doing there....maybe had something to do with the extractor

Thanks chet15. That's pretty interesting. Any idea on how many were produced? Do you have any info on a 300?

My notes are still blank on the .300.
It is anybody's guess on .338 M77R flatbolts since Ruger never releases that kind of information. But I would say on the high side no more than a few hundred, and that is probably way high.

A 7X57 RS hollow bolt in nice condition but for a new pad (thankfully the stock was not cut) sold in the classifieds here recently. As far as flatbolts and hollow bolts go, my next goal will be an ST.

I had numerous flat bolts and two hollow bolts at Tulsa last week, and a Cabelas buyer came by and bought nine of them. One was a 77R 7x57 hollow bolt, so yes, they do exist. The other hollow bolt was a 25-06 77R. There was a 350 M77 FB in there too. These were from one estate, most new but sat in basement for years so had some rust patches.. Watch Cabelas Omaha web site and I bet they will post soon...

I've had a bunch of them over the years. I had almost all of the calibers and configurations. Decided about six years ago to divest most of the collection. I still have the first one I bought new, an RS in .350RemMag. I also have an R in .270, and RS in .250Sav (sights added by Ruger, originally an R), a V in .22-250, another V in .220 Swift, an R in .300WinMag which is a re-barreled 7RemMag, and probably a couple more that I'm forgetting. I finally sold all my hollow bolts. The rarest hollow bolt that I had was a V in .25-06. All went to other Ruger long gun collectors. I've never personally seen a legit .300WinMag or a .338WinMag or a 7x57.
