We've partnered with Gather (and are helping build it) to bring you a mobile app for the forum. Some of you may remember we had a branded app years ago that got pulled by Apple. People have been asking for a mobile option ever since. Apple removed it because it was a branded app and Apple said it was not substantial enough. So this time Gather incorporates lots of forums but you can set it up so only Ruger shows for you.

The app is still early and we need your feedback to make it better. It's not perfect and we REALLY need your help on telling us what is hard to do, what doesn't make sense, what is broken, what needs to be added. We are releasing updates daily so we can react quickly.

How to get started:
  1. Download the app Android: https://gather.forum/android iOS: https://gather.forum/ios
  2. Create a Gather account using the same email address you use for the forum. This is how your accounts sync.
  3. Tap the Forums tab at the bottom
  4. Tap Search Communities and search for something like "Ruger"
  5. Tap on your forum (like Ruger) then tap Follow Forum
You're in. Browse, post, and reply like you would on desktop.

We need your feedback. What works, what doesn't, what's confusing, what's broken. All of it helps. Reply to this thread with anything you find.

WE REALLY NEED FEEDBACK ESP ON CLASSIFIEDS IN THE APP AND HOW TO PERFECT IT!!!!

Had to go back and forth a few times to find the New Posts selection.

While browsing the screen jumps and some of the text jumps with it. Some of it I never got a chance to read as it would jump from picture to picture and you'd see the text fly by but couldn't stop on it.

Will keep trying it to see if I can get to work differently.

I had to be reminded to use it because I'm so used to doing the old way. It took a little finagling to set it up and it took me maybe a minute to figure out how to show just the Ruger forum and not every other forum that's on here. Other than that it seems to be working okay.

The scroll is being improved. There are times, especially with image-heavy threads that loads and tends to make the text jump. We're working on it. Thanks for the feedback. Let me know what else you find.

Ah yes, the initial set up, especially if you're only using one forum. I'll include that in my feedback. Keep navigating and let me know if there are other challenges like posting new threads etc.

Nothing needs fixing. Gather is an additional option to access the forum especially for members who prefer a forum dedicated app rather than a mobile browser. Also for members of multiple forums having it in one access.

I got it installed no problem. I found another forum I used to frequent but I can't join because my username is already taken---it is my username. Need to find a way to get in that forum. Otherwise working fine for me here on RugerForum

Neither link took me here and I know almost nothing about computers et al. I do not download apps. The gun sites I am on came about by just clicking on and then putting in my user name and a password. Sorry I can't add any more.
All I get with the iOS link is page not found.

Ah, the first 2 links are to download the app. The third one goes here. If you're not using a mobile phone, the iOs and Android link will not direct you here.

Sorry, but I’m not interested in adding an additional app on my already memory-challenged iphone 13.
I appreciate trying to make improvements, but I'm too old to learn new stuff. I'd like to stick with the original site. Learned lotsa stuff on the old site.
I refuse to post from a phone. I am certain doing so is the main reason for so many oddities in what people type.
It's all good. If the current web app works perfect for you, then you may continue as you please. The Gather app is just an additional wat to access the forum. It will not replace the web version.

If you saw it, then it's within our network. You probably used another email. But you can go to your profile by clicking your avatar on the upper-right, then tap View Profiles, then Connected Accounts. When you see the forum you used to frequent, tap "Switch and you can change you email/username specific for that forum. Thanks for testing. I appreciate it!

Thanks! I'm in that forum now too. Had to change my email address online at that site.

I pretty much use my phone exclusively, but whenever I go on a forum that has a mobile version I always go to the full version anyways. It has always been my understanding that the mobile version was created to load faster on mobile devices by using less visual data. I prefer the visual experience of the full form and my phone is fast enough to handle it with zero lag.

I use my phone for phone calls and music. For stuff like this, I prefer a real keyboard and a 27" screen.
Unless a phone is the only thing you have......Like me. 🙂

Whatever works perfectly for you right now, please continue to do so. I appreciate your thoughts.

I had trouble creating my account.

What I learned from this:
Ensure you have "Create" highlighted rather than Login
and
You must type your password in twice!
The second PW box was off my screen and I didn't notice it when I scrolled to find the click button.

email confirmation went to my junk mail.

Hey @BrassMagnet thanks for testing. I see what you mean with "Create" rather than login.
I'll have the pw box issue reported as well as the email going to junk mail. Some emails outside of gmail are having issues and we're trying to figure them out. Let me know what else you find out while using the app.

FYI
I know some of you don't use your phone but some of us use it all the time. This is something that occurred to me today.

Gather will set itself to be the default app for compatible links, particularly on your phone.
IF you click on a link to this forum from the daily email (for instance), it will automatically open in the Gather app.

If you want to change this:
On an Android phone, go to settings
App
Choose default apps
Opening Links
Find Gather
Unselect "open supported links"

I don't mind the app but I'm still getting used to it so I didn't want it to open by default.
