I purchased a Ruger American Rifle. In the supplied pamphlets is a postcard for a free cheekpad for registering the rifle. Upon visiting the webpage http://www.ruger.com/cheekpad , which redirects to http://ruger.com/micros/cheekpad/ there are two cheekpads to choose from: a free and a premium at a reduced price.

No information is given as to what the difference is, and I could not find the premium cheekpad on ShopRuger's website. I called, and the lady that took my call said the difference that she is aware of is that the premium has a zipper pocket to cover the ammunition loops that are exposed on the free cheekpad. Not much of a "premium" if that is the only difference for an additional $24.95 then add shipping.

Does anyone have more detailed information as to what the differences are between these two cheekpads?

I have both. The $40 model comes with several thicknesses of foam that you can use to adjust your cheek height. You can also put two spare magazines in the zippered pouch. The $20 is lightly padded and I can put three 10 round 10/22 magazines in the pouch.

Thank you that answers my question.

BTW, did you mean to say "10/22 magazines"?
If so, does that mean you use the $20 cheekpad with a 10/22 rifle?

I have since found the items on the shopruger.com site:

The descriptions for each provide some detail about the products.

Yes, I use the $20 cheekpad on a 10/22 Takedown rifle.

Oops I had them mixed up. The $20 version with the cartridge loops is on my RAR .270 Win. The $40 version is on my 10/22 Takedown.
