Need a little help here please. What is a Ruger 77 tang safety Mannlicher in 308 in exc condition worth and are there any pro and cons for this model. I want one as a shooter not a collector piece. Thanks

.

Save for a single .223 M-77MKII (which I tried & sold within two weeks), the only Model 77 rifles I've owned/shot/hunted since the mid-70's (about 20) were various tang-safety models, of which I've bought/used M-77 RSI's in .250 Savage (3), .243Win (1), .308Win (4), .270Win (1) & .30-06 (1).

I shot all the RSI's scoped (1 of the .308's got an Aimpoint red dot sight), and used only commercial ammo in the RSI's.

Most gave me excellent accuracy @ 100yds, like 3/4" (.30-06) to 1-1/4" (.250) groups - EXCEPT for those four chambered in .308Win (go figure).

I couldn't get any of the .308's to shoot closer @ 100yds than 2-1/2" groups (at best), with most of the groups in the 3"-3-1/2" range (at worst).

That's still "minute-of-deer", though not good enough for me.

YMMV, of course.

Mine is a tack driver if I could find them for 4-$500 I would buy them all. Most I have seen run 7-$800.

Big Old Boy is correct. 4-$500 is way low. 7-$800 is more like it. I know someone who payed $900 for one in like new condition with box and papers. So, I don't know the asking price but 7-800 is reasonable if it truly is in excellent condition. I have one and would not part with it. I do live in eastern PA where prices might be slightly higher to the knowledgeable buyer.

I forgot the pros and cons. Pros: Light, handles and shoots well. Con: So nice that you don't want to use it in bad weather.

I have one of the Hawkeye Lipseys RSI stainless in .308 win.
I think it was manufactured around 2011.
I gave about $800 tax and all for it.

It shoots three shots in rapid succession into MOA at 100 yds.with good handloads.

I paid close to $800 last year for mine in 308.
After glass bedding & free floating it shoots 1/2" - 3/4" with Nosler 150 gr Ballistic Tips.
That's all I've run through it so far.
I was glad to get mine.

I would expect to pay in the 800 buck range for a tang safety model in very good condition. I traded for exactly this rifle (in .308) about three years ago at a gunshow. I think the guy was asking $800 IIRC. I traded him a nice S&W model 29 .44 mag for it. The RSI already had a Timney trigger in it (and the original was included) and had a 4x Leupold on it. I sold the 4x for about $160 I think and put a 1.75-6x Leupold with heavy duplex reticle on it instead. It's a shooter, too - handloaded 165 gr. Nosler Partitions over Reloder 15 powder are very accurate. It has accounted for several Alabama whitetails since I've had it and has a regular spot in my hunting rifle rotation. Have to give them all an outing time to time, you know, or they get their feelings hurt. Hunting buddy and forum member Nimrod 308 has the identical rifle with a 2.5-8x Leupold on it. We think they are not only great-looking but just about perfect setups for our Southern deer/hog hunting.

Haven't seen an RSI under $800 in a few years in my travels (unless it had damage or excessive wear/neglect).
Most are in the $900-1100 range in near-perfect condition.
Most are owned by rifleshooters who know rifles.

6gunsonly, do you notice a change of zero from year to year on your 308 RSIs?
I bedded & somewhat free floated mine last summer, had a good zero thru out the hunting season but when I checked it just last week, it had changed quite a bit.
