I have a Ruger 77 MK II that I'm trying to identify as to years made and is it a Lipsey's special run?
It is a 77 MK II in "satin" polished stainless steel, with light 22" barrel, in .308 Win caliber, #789-266XX. The Walnut stock is as fancy grain-wise as some of the No.1's that I've owned. Any help here guys? Thanks!
Pics are posted now, but they are awfully small so I don't know if they help much.

Pictures would help a lot. I cant remember all the special runs made in the last 6-8 years. There have been a ton of them. I can't help from thinking there were some in fancy walnut like you describe or in circassian walnut but I thought they were in 270 and 30-06. Are you the original owner? Have the box? The box would tell a lot with the model number etc. Maybe someone swapped out stocks with that fancy walnut?

I'm not the original owner and unfortunately I didn't get the box with it. I've never seen a Ruger rifle in quite this configuration, that's why I'm trying to figure out what I've got. I'll try to post some pics again. BTW, the stock has a factory Ruger grip cap and red rubber butt pad. I just don't remember ever seeing this as a std. catalog listed rifle. Thx!

A local FFL showed me a 77 Ultra-light in 308 that was a special run. It was blue though, and had the nicest piece of circassian walnut on it that I have seen. He said it was a Talo run of 200. He had several, and kept this one for his personal collection because the wood was so nice.

Hmmm. This rifle has the ultralight contour barrel on it, but this one measures 22" instead of the more common [I think] 20" barrel of the ultralight. The barrel has all the normal Ruger markings and warning though so it is a factory barrel.

You can call Ruger, EST 603-863-3300 ask for records. Tell them you have a M77 MKII and the serial number. They will let you know the year/month it shipped and it's configuation, just as it would have been on the box. Also if it was a special order for one of the distributors.

That would be some good info, then maybe narrow it down from there.
