i am fortunate to own a great many hand guns. if i had to choose just. one it would be my new model black hawk 7.5 inch. ser.no. 45-18795 45 colt, with the 45 acp cylinder made around 1975 . this gun shoots so sweet i just love it. i shoot 14 gr. of bluedot over a Lyman 235 gr. with gas check. pity but Don't think this mould is made any longer by the way this is a E.Keith type of bullet. this gun also shoos lead 230 Lyman round nose very will. have not shoot many jacked bullets in as money is a factor.

Sounds great, the caliber(s) are just superb choices. My BH is a .357, but I think the first gun I always pick up is my 6.5" Single-Six. Excellent balance, just feels right, got maybe 20,000plus rounds thru it, Wolff spring kit. thank you Mr. Ruger for giving us these choices. Since you shoot virtually all cast, I'll bet your bore is still pristine!!

you have one great superb excellent wonderful gun in the a excellent caliber. In my opinion youhave the do all gun. Between the colt round and the acp round there is pretty much nothing you can't do

The 45 Blackhawks are great guns. My first gun was a 45 Blackhawk in 1974.

Ya know, you made me think about it and I have quite a few Rugers in 45 Colt, some with a 45ACP cylinder. And there are many "favorites" among them!

Not a bad representation for an old cartridge thought long ago obsolete, and its modern replacement over 100years old. Ruger essentially reinvented the one with a gun that could handle its full, modern capabilities and made the other more versatile than it was.

For as many cannons as I own, the old 45 Colt will cover anything I'd ever ask of a handgun. There's a reason why it's as popular today as it was in 1873.

Great choice After years of owning .44's, 454's, and 500's I just bought one of these myself. Picked it up for $489 over at Gunbrokers.
Unfortunately the RCBS dies that I purchased came without a seating plug so am waiting for that part to come in before loading up some ammo to give her a test before deciding if the throats should be uniformally reamed.

Yep, it is a Belt Mountain. I also corrected the throats, re-cut the forcing cone, and added laminate grips. So maybe I shouldn't have called it "bone-stock".

Great gun though. My favorite 'heavy' load is 20.0 of H110 under a 340 gr SSK. Goes around 1,225 fps and hits like a ton of bricks.

I have 3 45 colt rugers they are definately great shooters only one is a convertable but I've never put the cylinder in the gun. I have 5 1911's that I use to shoot my acp's through but it's nice to have the option I guess.

335gr LBT over 20.5gr of IMR 4227 in my 7 1/2" Bisley would probably shoot completely through a big steer from 50yds out and that load only runs around 975-1050 fps max

What i really like about my big Bisley is that I have one gun in my gear that I could take into just about any situation and not be afraid that I don't have enough power to put a stop to whatever is coming. With any of the 300+gr loads from Grizzley or CorBon or Doubletap, a properly deployed 45 Colt will stomp on what it hits

I dearly love mine. A Lyman 454424 over 18 grs 2400 is wonderfully accurate.

Nice Acusport Tom. Did you have to correct the throats? As with many 45 Blackhawks, mine were way undersized.

No Lee I didn't. I put a #5 Belt Mtn base pin, Colt type ejector rod, Bowen rear sight and black micarta grips from Carl Shultz on it. I love my little Bisley FT 44 Special's more than this 45, but not by much.
