Ruger .44 peep sight

Hello all, looking for a little help with a peep sight for my ruger .44 carbine. I want to put a lyman 66 RU on it and was wondering if others have used this peep with the factory front sight? did you need to install a taller front sight if you did? thanks for any help.

I'm not sure what the Lyman RU looks like but I have always disliked the side mount peeps that extend over the receiver with support on just one side. I had one like that bend in transit and throw off a lot of rounds until I discovered it was made of soft metal that you could readily bend. I much prefer peep sights that mount directly on the top of the receiver,

I would use the Williams WGRS and you won't have to drill the side of your receiver or notch your stock. It does require a taller front sight. I think they might have a set with front sight.

+1 - I also used the WGRS-44.

The fact that a top-mounted receiver peepsight requires a taller front sight to match the new/higher line-of-sight is an excellent opportunity to switch out the front sight blade for a different type (Patridge, Gold, Ivory, or FO bead) that may suit one's vision better.

I opted for a fiber-optic (FO) front sight blade, which is/are available in the same 2 bead sizes ( 1/16"-fine & 3/32"- coarse) as gold/ivory beads, and in different colors to match an individual's color perception.
(even though I'm not color blind, I perceive some colors better than other colors)

I would use the williams sight. I am not keen on drilling and notching wood.
