Are #1 rifles set up such that they can be shot by right or left handed shooter without either noticing fit differences?

I tend to enjoy the No.1 for what it is, pretty flexible as to caliber, cosmetics and has a little class to it. I could care less about their value, how many they made etc........I just like them...........

I shoot a long gun left handed, a left master eye comes into play for me. The factory No.1 has no extras to speak of in the buttstock, such as cheekpiece etc and seems fairly straight to me. Never worried about such, seems to work ok for me; do wish the length of pull was a bit longer; hence my needs for new stocks on occasion.

Of course, the furniture can be replaced with a stock attuned for your own tastes, dimensional as well as cosmetics, such as cheekpieces, etc etc. I sugguest if you never shouldered one to get an idea of relative fit, there are some around for trial I am sure in the various spots.

Some will relieve the side of the action a bit for ease for lefties, but I have never done it myself. Seems to lend itself during loading ok as is, for my needs.

The very first #1s I ever saw, over 40+ years ago belonged to a family friend, a lefty, that showed up one day at the ranch with a #1. Shortly after I bought my first one. His was a non prefic 243 "B" that he used for sqirrels and antelope. Again due to the lefty thing he added a few more.

Some years back, when he was making serious money he had several full custom left handed bolt guns made. I now have his non prefix #1s.

It works as well right or left handed and has no cast off in the stock etc. The tang safety works just as well for a righty as a lefty.

Buy, shoot, enjoy.

It is absolutely perfect for a left-handed shooter.

Yep, they are great guns for wrong handed people!
It has been said that we are all born left-handed and only become right-handed when we commit our first sin. TD
