The pic shown is of a 26" model I believe. Never had much faith in these auctions with just a standard pic and not one of the actual firearm being sold.
The .338 RCM in 1S is a 22" barrel rifle. I have a couple, but have yet to shoot one. I used the 1A in .300 RCM last deer season; pretty impressive.
Chronographed velocity was as advertised and the rifle did not seem to recoil any more than a .30-06.
If you were going elk hunting and wanted something to do the job that was short, light and handy, I think the 1S in .338 RCM would fill the bill.

I'm drawn to the mid calibers. I have 35Rem, 358 Winchester, and 375 Win. all fun calibers to shoot and reload. As much as I love #1's and 3's. I had to build a custom in .358. The 338 looks like a fine addition falling just between my 30-40 and the 35's.
I have it from a Lipsey's source that less than 100 of the .338 RCM's in the 1S were made. Ruger is pushing their RCM line in the Hawkeye, where they have, I think, 20" barrels. Per Ruger and Hornady, that is all the barrel required for performance, with the Hornady Superformance loads. I don't know of anyone else loading the RCM's??
I know one of these is not a Ruger and I'll catch heat for it, but (whoa) what a fun gun to shoot! If you look close you can see there's a serious void beckoning to be filled!
