I have a 10/22 with a Tactical Solution barrel, Kidd trigger group, and a Houge stock and I am looking for scope and scope ring recomendations. I will mainly use this rifle for squirrels, plinking and some bench target shooting. I am kind of leaning towards the Nikon Prostaff Rimfire 3-9x40. What do you guys use? I don't currently have any of my .22s scoped, from what I read it seem like a rimfire scope with an adjustable objective is the way to go with a .22lr. I have other Nikon scopes and really like them, but do I really need a $150 scope on a .22lr rifle? Is the adjustable objective really that important?

As a minimum, I'll use a Mueller. No more of the Simmons and Tasco garbage and certainly nothing from BSA. The Nikon stuff is pretty good - have a Nikon on one of my builds am have nothing but positive things to say about it.

I had a 3-9 lighted BSA scope off a hunting rifle in the safe that works perfect on my 10-22 takedown. Key is to spring for some easily removed-lever only, return to zero mounts.

You can get by with cheap... especially with bench shooting... on a 10/22 because of the low recoil. But since you are leaning toward spending more... I would go that way. I have both Simmons and Nikon scopes and the Nikon is obviously better.. and it is not even a high end one. With hunting you are going to want to stay on the low end of the power setting for quick sight selection. At least for me I found that I can usually shoot as well if not better with a variable power scope on the lower setting... much like shooting with Iron sights with just a little bit of help. Where the 9 power or better comes in handy is with bench shooting at 50-75 yards and actually seeing where the rounds hit the target and often times seeing it hit.

My squirrel rifle is like your's, Tac Sol barrel, Hogue stock, and Volquartsen innards. I have a Bushnell 4x fixed power with the circle-x retical. They also offer the circle-x in a 3-p scope. The cirle is about the size of a squirrel's head and makes for easy head shots. There is a fine crosshair in the middle for accurate target shooting. To me these are the best squirrel scopes.

Well I thinks its come down to the Nikon Prostaff Rimfire 3-9x40 or the Mueller MPV 4.5-14x40. Now to decide which one. I am leaning a little towards the Mueller, but not quite sold yet. Also what rings and mounts are you guys using? Any experience with the DNZ mount?

With the money you have put into the rifle it seems skimping and buying a low end scope would be a waist. While I do not own one, my brother has a Nikon scope on one of his rifles and he is happy with it.

The AO is critical on a .22 that will be used the way you'll be using yours, so that one's a big YES.

I like the Simmons 22MAG 3x-9x AO, which costs a lot less than your $150 figure. Might not be the best scope but almost certainly the best VALUE in a .22 scope. I've heard nothing but good things about the Mueller, too, but it's a little more.

I know several people who have bought the Simmons on my recommendation and every one of them has been happy with it.
