Hello,

I just purchased my first ruger :D

Its 10/22 carbine

it has :
Ruger 10/22. Side folding stock and Volquartsen internals (hammer, sear, extractor, springs). Automatic bolt release.

The problem:

When I got the gun, all excited and not checking, i got home and found the safety not to work... it seems as when you press it to safe, it will not snap in to the safe mode... it is stuck on fire.. so when i took the trigger group out and took out the sear and it seems as if the hammer is keeping the sear pushed down on the safety there for making it to where the safety will not go on safe.. please get back to me.. i put the trigger group back together as the

Not to mention, taking out the whole trigger group internals other than the safety it makes that snap noise when its in the safe position or the fire position

Anyone know of any ideas of what the problem could be possibly?

Make sure it's all in there correctly. Note the notch on the safety is facing upwards.

Some hammer and sear kits need the safety to be modified (filed a bit). Maybe whoever built it didnt do it enough or not at all.

What do you mean as in to some modding to the safety?

Like filed instead of a 90degree slot , file it down some more so it slides up on to the cylinder? please use paint or some kind of visual : D

Also, i have put it together correctly, as the ruger website shows.. it stil has the problem, im thinking it needs filing but i dont wana do anything yet till i am sure..

WOAH WOAH WOAH...

Before you start filing away at your ruger, take a moment...

I have 2 Ruger 10/22s. On both of them the safety is blocked unless the sear is engaged, MEANING...

The safety will ONLY travel its full distance into SAFE mode (click) once the rifle is fully cocked.

It just how they are made.

Welcome to the Forum!
It appears you have purchased someone elses "custom job" 10/22. I'd find a good gunsmith to look that gun over before attempting any filing etc.

Thank you ruger guru, it appears i think you are correct, the guy i purchased it from is going to look at it, he has another ruger 10/22 that is all modded and target barrel

Volquartsen internals (hammer, sear, extractor, springs)

Im going to meet up with him this weekend and have him look at it, all else fails im going to ask him for my money back if i cannot get the problem fixed

The safety will only engage when the bolt has been cocked. Rack the bolt with no mag in then see if the safety will engage. It's a confusing feature.
