round butted S/A

Thanks Robb, those are some good looking six guns. I'm defiently gonna have my Talo round butted when it goes in for the rest of the work.

Hey Robb, what grip frame is that? I love the first one.

I'm wondering about a bird-head-ing a SBH frame, "I'll take the birds head, super large."

Sheep.dog I think a large frame birdshead would be neat. I don't have a birdshead because the ones I've handled in the gun store just seem too small. Maybe on the large frame to round the frame but not to the same extreme as an actual birdshead.

sheep.dog,

I agree with you, a super large birdshead grip frame.

And consider the large stainless Hunter Grip frame w/round trigger guard. It will give you a decent handful and be a first-of-a-kind that I know of.

If I were making it I would trace the bottom of the Ruger birdshead onto the bottom of the Hunter frame and cut off the corner 1/8" shorter (inside the trace line) with a jig saw. Cut webbing out of the cut-off piece. Grind off the outside corner leaving 1/8" of full thickness frame. Heat and bend it to the final outside curve shape of the Ruger birdshead, then tig weld it back onto the grip frame. Finish and brush it to match the gun's finish. It'll look like a Ruger factory made grip frame.

Inspires to me to want to make one just to see how it will look! But I'm sure it would not be a challenge for who you've already chosen to do your custom work!

Hondo,
Here's where I can confused about grip frames and for some reason the gun last article won't open for me right now.
Is the SBH grip frame on my talo the same as on the hunter with round trigger guard.

No. The SBH with 5 1/2" barrels and shorter have the standard XR3-RED size grip frame; same as all the standard Blackhawks. But not the Flat Top Blackhawks: they have the XR3 size grip frames.

Well, I guess I'd have to find a stainless SBH Hunter grip frame then. Dang, OK more money to spend...

This one was $101.74 from Brownells:

Sheep.dog,

I copied and pasted the photo above, blew it up and printed it out. I cut out the birdshead grip, placed and aligned it over the bottom of the super frame on the gun, traced the BH and cut along the traced line on the super grip frame. It really looks good!

OK. I'll try to use the printer at work and try it for myself.
You might get to see the real thng first as there's quite a wait for the Smith.

I think that its time for a career change for me.
