I have a new stainless blackhawk in 44 special that came with black rubber grips. I want the factory wood stocks. Can someone tell me what size grips I need to be looking for ?

I tried some from my other blackhawks and they dont fit.

Thanks

The .44 Specials are fitted with a Colt SAA shaped grip frame.

We Ruger shooters call them a New Model XR-3 grip frame.

So, grips specifically marketed for the current .44 Specials and also the New Vaquero are what you need.

The grip frames contain a mainspring lock assembly. The lock is a bit wider than the grip frame so the grips MUST have a relief cut to fit.

Here's the lock.

I looked at the Ruger online store and they don't have any right now.

You can look for custom wood grips for the 'New Blackhawk flattop w/ lock, or the 'New Vaquero', as they would be the same I believe.

Hogue cowboy grips might serve your purpose. Scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Here is the recess in flat backed grips that Flatgate referred to. You can also see why the molded stock grips don't have a problem with the lock.
