Rocket for Ruger

Installed this on my SR9c yesterday and today. I have about 10 hours in it. I was being extra careful so it could be done in less than an hour I'm sure plus I was using small hand files and under the weather. I also polished the parts listed in the sticky.

The polish alone made the trigger 100 times smoother. If it weren't for the over travel that would be enough on this gun even with a heavy trigger pull.

After installing the rocket the trigger pull is somewhat smaller but I don't think it's the 3.5lbs as advertised but it is noticeably smoother and slightly lighter. For 35 bucks with shipping you cannot go wrong.

I hope to shoot it tomorrow, if I'm feeling better. Otherwise it will be after I get it back from Ruger as I'm sending it in for a peening problem on Monday.

I think you won't see the Ruger trigger approach 3.5 lbs until someone decides to make some new springs.

I've been using my SR9 in IDPA competition with no problems. Really happy with the feel of the trigger. Yes, there are lighter triggers, but I can now prep the trigger and know when it will break, and the reset is the best I've yet felt on a striker-fired gun.

I think the price for the Rocket is absurd! I don't get why he charges so much for a piece that probably costs him $2.

Um, the Ultimate is only $20, and the Rocket, $40. Not pocket change, but not expensive at all for what you get, in my opinion. Hell, if you screw up fitting the Rocket, he'll replace it for you for free.

Just like every businessman, the goal is to make a profit. And supply and demand helps set the price. Think he could continue making them very long if he sold them for $3.00? Dont' think so.

Rocket is 29.99 and 6 or 7 for shipping. Cheap part yes but you have to remember there are packaging costs, tax costs, website costs, R&D costs and god knows what else. Really 30 ain't bad! It achieves a purpose. Try doing any work to a trigger for less than that. There aren't many. Especially that stop over travel which was my whole purpose in the first place.

Besides, for $30.00, even if YOU screw it up putting it in he will replace it for FREE. Not too many places I know of that will give you a new part if YOU screw it up. To me, customer service and stand-behind warranty are worth the 'extra' price. Some of that $30.00 cost for a '$2.00' part I am sure goes towards the coverage of his cost to replace the trigger bars that others have messed up.

Just a thought.

As much as I wanted to like the Rocket, I don't. I'd go with the Galloway kit. Price is the same and it's a drop in kit.

I have yet to see anything on Galloway's site that would alleviate overtravel. Their 3.5 lb kit is 50 bucks. I'm sure it does however get you down to 3.5 lbs.

Not to mention he's always out of stock. Been perusing his webpage for almost 2 months and the 3.5 has been out.

Not knockin his stuff. I looks to be very very quality stuff.

Galloway has mentioned here on RF.com he's working on an overtravel stop for the SR9 and also brought it up in a couple emails. I've got the 3.5 Comp. Kit in my SR9 right now and it is quality stuff. Sure, he's had trouble regarding the stock, but he's been in contact with me between my initial review and even up to our latest email last week. Hoping this week we'll get an update from me or him, I'll be emailing him later today about it, unless he stops by and posts.

Josh

I'd be interested if he comes out with the whole package. w/ over travel stop. That was my main concern and why I went with the Ghost.

Maybe at a later date, the Galloway unit would be my way to go. For now, Ghost had theirs in stock and into my hands in 4 days. It fit well, was easy to get the trigger stop filed to length, and has made a difference in pull when combined with the polishing that was performed. I use the gun as a carry piece, and for that it works well (doesn't do too bad punching paper either).

I will think about giving Galloway a shot (no pun intended) when his products are finally and constantly available. Not knocking his products or your assessment of them (after all, between you and Grendal, the Ghost and polish was touted as the best thing for this gun), just the availability issues.

So Josh, you've been promising to answer this question but keep avoiding giving us the bottom line.
What was the actual trigger pull weight you got out of the 3.5 kit???
Sal

Sal, I still don't know. My apologies for avoiding it, but it just slipped my mind then and currently, SR9 stuff hasn't been much of a priority for me. Don't want to make excuses, but life's getting in the way right now. I'll try and remember to get the gauge from my coworker and try and get a vise setup again. Hopefully I can deliver those figures.

Josh

You don't really need that vise setup. You can get just as repeatable results using all the other procedures you used before to making sure the gage is positioned at the same point on the trigger with the zip tie, and you've got the gages rod on the same plane as the barrel. Just hold the weapon tightly with the other hand.
Done a lot of different triggers using my RCBS gage and repeatability has never been a problem using this approach.
Sal

True, still gotta remember to get the gauge first!! Will set a few reminders for myself for Monday and Tuesday

Others are reporting that the Galloway kit actually has a slightly heavier pull than 'stock' and the Rocket, but gives a more balanced feel to the overall workings of the SR9/SR9c trigger system. I will look into one when they are available.

But basic rules of physics should still apply, correct? A 2# gun with an 8# pull versus the same 2# gun with a 5# pull is going to be a more unstable shooter when the trigger is being pulled, correct? Weight/arm/movement still applies to a lever, and the more weight to move the lever acting on a set mass is going to destabilize that mass more?

I can understand the balance aspect of it though; if you have a heavier weight on one end of the lever counterbalanced by a corresponding weight on the other end, the added weight will not be felt. Is this the principle on which the Galloway kit works?

I appreciate all inputs, as an informed decision on a competent trigger system seems to be more in order versus just concentrating on trigger pull weights.

That's very surprising to hear, with all the work Eric went to having custom striker and trigger springs made, only to end up with no improvement??? Doesn't make sense to bother bringing the products to market if that was the case.
Guess we'll have to wait till Josh can give us some real numbers, I know he's going to come through for us real soon now
Sal

I absolutely agree Sal, which is why I am waiting for some concrete data before making the move. Trigger weight is one thing, but an overall balanced and smooth action is something to look forward to. I do not believe in 'staging' a trigger, either pull it or don't; and if I can get my trigger weight down or my trigger action smoother with more bullets dead-on target the better. Josh does a lot of good product reviews, and YouTube how-tos' that are extremely helpful. I can only wait and see what he comes up with (he does recommend the Galloway over the Ghost, but many others swear by their Ghost installs) and am interested in the results he posts.
