We have our phone system setup to intercept most of them but a few get through.
Now they are stealing peoples active numbers to make the call.
Phone rang yesterday evening and I saw the O'Riley Auto Parts number come up so I answer.
Now we do have that store in town and when I answer I get the recorded 'Student Loan" forgiveness ramble.
Ticked off I call the number back and the counter guy at O'Riley answers the phone!
He told they have tried to stop it but no luck yet. Isn't there a law against stealing phone numbers??

The base problem is that the people actually doing the calling are . . . not
. . . in the US. As such, no matter what our laws state, they ignore them.

IMO, the two best ways to handle it are:
1) Have a LOUD whistle. When one of those dolts starts to talk, give them
a blast. DO remember that the next two or three calls will be that idiot
trying to "get back" at you.
2) Interrupt them and say something like "Hold on for a second" and either
put the handset down and walk away, or say "CLETUS! QUIT PUTTING
YOUR HANDS IN BABY"S DIAPER . . . NO! THAT'S NOT WHAT THAT
SMELLS LIKE! - - - If the idiot is still on the line, put it down and walk away.

:D

If one get's through (not often any more) I let them start talking (as long as it's not a recording) and then I just start sobbing and crying...never say a word...just wail and cry...soon they hang up and probably wonder what they did.....being old with too much time on my hands gives me the chance to just play with people if I want.

Since these calls come on our land line wish I had a Nuke button to send a good charge back down the line!

the incident I had recently that really gets me parinold was;

I had called Social Security that morning. that afternoon the caller ID was "Social S"! when I asked the credit card services caller about how "Social S" was displayed, they hung up. Calling the number back was a Furniture Store.

The current repeating calls are from "RNP". when I pickup that ask to speak to Carol. FIrst time I told them wrong number then they started about asking about if I was going to vote. For the last three calls, as soon as they ask to speak to Carol I say immediatly "I Transferr you to her" and put on hold.

Another one I usually reserve to someone that I know, but does wonders
for the others: "Joe's Bar and Grill, Joe ain't here, Pat (replace with your
name) de manager speaking."

That usually gets them to stammer and hang up.

OR, you could try a nancy peloci on them. Start each sentence strongly
and then taper off into nothing, with a long pause between.

I NEVER answer.

I let my answering machine screen ALL calls.

So, I have ZERO phone call aggravation.

My phone provider has a free service to Block all robo calls.
One ring equal a blocked call kinda nice. ps

Yeah that's what we have too plus if watching TV in the den the number pops up on the screen.

An unintended side effect of these robo-calls...I no longer have a problem hanging up without explanation (something that used to be considered rude). Even if it's a real person on the other end of the call. I'm not going to waste my time trying to figure out if the caller is real or recorded. I just assume they're all robo calls.

Sometimes wonder if the telemarketers are noticing an increase in rudeness.

I've got that too and it works great, most of the time. A few get through. I just put the speaker on and set the phone down and see how long they talk to themselves before they realize no one is listening.

I let my answering machine do it too but it is totally full and thus blocked. I review the phone #s and decide which ones to call back and erase the rest.

I’m at the same point. Usually not even a no thanks anymore.

I get at least two robo-calls a week from the Red Cross. I have vowed to NEVER give them money or blood again until I don't hear from them again for a continuous year.
