ROA front sight

I guess im a little confused about the front sight variations on the
BP-7B.
This all started with the article in the new RENE I recieved today.
Is the flat top front sight variation the older wavy style?
In other words, i pulled out my BP7B and compared it to
two of my flatops (type 3&4). They look the same to me.
It also looks like the same sight on my supers too.
So i guess im not sure what type the rare variation is.

The "flat topped" front sight variation is "the scarce one". The sights were taller than required so they were "filed down" at the Factory, prior to shipping. This resulted in the flat area at the "top" of the front sight being much "longer" that what is seen on unaltered guns.

Brass framed Old Armys with the "flat topped" front sight would be THE one to find. I've never seen one. The blued "flat topped" examples are rarely seen.

Hey you aren't the only one that was confused about the "Flat top" sight or "flat topped" site....looks the same except the RARE ONE" has been "regulated"

Maybe I can help clear things up. 1972 Ruger introduced the Old Army. Some guns were produced with the "Ramp" style front sight and some with the "Flattop" type front sight. The serial number range for Flattop front sights were 140-00107 to 140-00773. The only known Old Army brass frame (BP-7B) known is serial number 140-00281. Factory letter states Ruger Old Army Revolver serial number 140-00281 was shipped October 1972 as a model BP-7B with Brass grip frame. Also RENE page 1374 has a small story about the gun. Added information about this gun is that it was an employee gun and also features a "color buffed" finish. From what I have been told is that some subscription holders ordered early Old Army's with a brass frame so there are possibly others out there.

Great information on these,I've been searching for just this.I have some flat top front sight models and wanted info on them.I wish one was brass.
