Riding lawn mower question

I have one with double blades and grass catcher, the shoot to the catchers keep clogging up, can some one help me out on stopping this problem? thanks in advance.

Could be several things.....how tall is the grass? Is it wet/damp or dry?
Is this a new (to you) mower/catcher? What brand and model mower? Where is the catcher located (beside or behind)?

Are you using the proper high lift blades for use with a grass catcher? They will provide a bit more push to the grass clippings.

I don't use a grass catcher, instead I use a mowing pattern that evenly distributes the cuttings across my lawns. All that is then needed is a good watering and the cuttings sink back into the lawn where they provide some fertilizing effect.

This works really well unless I let the grass get too tall.

My old rider used to clog up right where the duct work exited into the round portion.
It would do this when grass was wet or really thick.

change the blade height ( cutting) maybe taking off too much, or like noted above, waited too long between cuts, so too tall..............
when it gets that bad ( tall) we will use a grass catcher ,pull behind, go after the BIG piles...beats RAKING !!!! :roll:

I find when mine clogs I take small passes instead of full cut.

I was kinda hoping this was about mounting a gun on the mower. Been thinking about a good way to secure a holster or scabbard where it won't get in the way.

Your question is kinda like saying "my gun doesn't shoot very well".....
Brand and model of the machine would help, but in general....

Proper high lift blades for the machine in good condition.
Engine RPM at the high end of spec. and operated at full throttle.
Clean under deck and chute.
Catcher vents clean if vented and bags clean if some type of mesh.
Correct drive belt tension for blade drive belt(s).
Mow when the grass is dry
Slower ground speed.
Slightly higher height of cut.

And last, some brands just suck!

Thanks for all the response, It does not like wet grass the name on the mower is coast to coast I bought it 25 years ago new, have always had problem with wet grass, as far as tall I don't know how tall you all are talking about and the RPM I do not have a gage on it.

Most tractors are meant to be run wide open. They almost always have governors to keep the engine speed correct. Look at high lift blades and see if that’s what you have. Tall wet grass is always problematic. With all the wet weather I’ve had to raise the deck up more than usual when I get the occasional non-raining day. The grass has still been wet though.

Mine came with the grass catcher bag. Used it one time. Spent more time taking it to the mulch pile and emptying it than cutting the grass. More trouble than it was worth. Removed it, hung it in the garage, and now just cut in different directions each time I mow.

Try some "high lift" blades. I just changed mine out and not only the high lift but also the proper sharpness makes a big difference. If you do Amazon, you should be able to get a pair of high lift blades for 20-25 bucks. The past month has been so dry you should not be having problems with clogging.

I believe you should only be cutting 1/3 the grass height - that is based on 5" (max) grass cut down to about 3 1/2".

Seems something has changed if you are suddenly having troubles after 25 years of use.

How is the cut? Smooth and clean or ragged/ choppy. If you have a poor cut, the blades could be mounted upside-down - or just really dull and in need of sharpening.

Try cutting without the bagger and check the dispersal of clippings - even broadcast of clippings or throwing out globs of clippings? If the clippings are coming out in globs they will likely clog the discharge when bagging. Either clippings are too wet or too long.

Those old Coast-to-Coast mowers were not pretty and all controls were manual but they were quality machines and had four cylinder motors. They also had one more forward gear than most all other riding mowers and, to this day, win lawn mower races.
