Just be aware that when bidding on RIA auctions, after fees, taxes, shipping, handling, you can expect to add at least 25% to your final bid.
Yes, be sure you calculate carefully. The total add on my last win was 41% on top of my bid. No joke. I could have saved 3% by mailing a check but the rest was their fee, the online bid adder, sales tax, shipping and insurance. They don’t tell you but shipping is $40 for pistols plus $20 for each additional. Still happy with my win but it definitely adds up fast. Best to plan for it before you bid.
I really makes me appreciate the guys that will list their guns here on the forum for sale. With even GunBroker adding sales tax plus 1% now you really have to compare properly.

It would have to be something I really want to bid at RIA again. Last thing I won cost me$400 extra. Fees are to high.

I would check Pawn Shops before paying those prices + add-ons.
I used to buy quite often from RIA but when their buyer's premium went from 15% to 17.5% (for cash). I cut way back. Then if you use credit, it is 3% more, another 3% if you use Proxibid, or even another 1% if you use their own online bid platform which really should be free since they wouldn't have to employ so many temps for phone bids if more people used it. Then they charge you for packing materials (boxes, bubble wrap, tape, all that saran wrap, peanuts,), and the cheapest shipping option is USPS but then they ship Registered so it takes 2 weeks for packages to get halfway across the country. Sometimes I wonder if buyers have remorse for not figuring all that in before bidding. If I am going to bid, I set up a spreadsheet where I figure the market value for a lot, then divide by 1.175 to account for the premium, then subtract out estimated packing/shipping cost, then round down to their nearest bid increment. Often that number ends up being below the low end of their estimated range, so I don't bother.
