I just came into a 4" Security Six, mfg. date 1973, serial 150-XXXXX. I purchased from original owner who put exactly 39-rounds through it. He included the box of red/black box Federal's he bought with the gun. 11 rounds left -- price tag on the box is $7.05! The revolver is rust free. However, it has a lot of holster wear. The holster was a sloppy fit and the rig has bounced around in his truck (s) for 40 years.

I see on Ruger's website that they will polish and reblue a revolver for $130 plus $30 return shipping. Does anyone have experience with this service by Ruger? Good deal?

LOTS of personal experience and that is a very fair price, besides who better to do the job, than the folks that built it in the first place, even my gunsmith is going to charge a minimum of $125 plus any and all shipping/return, ,so go for it..................
as Jim said above and I agree "from what I've seen ,money well spent...."

i bought my first six series just recently, when i needed a woods gun and found a guy needing turkey hunting supplies. got him down to $150 for a nice blue police service six, with about 90% of bluing left. he kept it in a leather holster and never fired it much. it has just a tinny bit of blue missing on each side of the tip of the barrel a little cylinder wear and on the top strap. the gun shoots fantastic, if it were stainless i'd have nothing to complain about. thought about having it reblued by ruger but it is a woods gun, so probably just leave it be.

When Ruger gets done with it, it ill look like new. They will also inspect all the parts when they disassemble it and if anything needs replaced, they will do that, IF they have the parts. Parts for the Six series are getting scarce, even at Ruger. I wouldn't hesitate to have Ruger re-blue it.
